Networks

Not every parcel wants a door.

Lockers, pick-up points, your own network and the carriers you buy from – orchestrated by rule, on the same record as everything you carry yourself.

The argument

Out-of-home is a routing decision, not an exception.

Most platforms treat a locker as a special case bolted onto a door-delivery model. It shows.

If the locker is an exception, it gets its own screen, its own status codes and its own reconciliation – and the round that drops a dozen parcels there is planned as a dozen stops or as one, neither of which is true.

Worse, the choice of where a parcel goes is made at checkout by a customer guessing, rather than by the platform that knows this recipient collected from locker 4B eleven times out of twelve.

Treated properly, out-of-home is just another node with a capacity, a service time and a cost – which makes it comparable with a door, and therefore routable against it.

It is also frequently the better first attempt, which is the number the whole operation is judged on. A parcel that never needed a second visit is cheaper than any optimisation of the second visit.

What is inside the block

Five products, one network.

PUDO & lockers

Out-of-home delivery as a first-class stop on the round, with its own parcel count and its own service time – not an exception handled by hand.

Build your own PUDO

Your own points and lockers run as nodes on your network: coverage, capacity, custody and settlement, the same as any depot.

Carrier orchestration

Who carries this parcel, decided by rule on every shipment – and the decision recorded, so you can ask later why.

Multi-carrier shipping

Your own fleet and bought capacity on the same line, with one sequence and one event log across both.

Partner performance

What each carrier actually did on this lane, fed back into the next orchestration decision rather than into an annual review.

The orchestration rule

LocationArea, postcode, zone, country.
Weight & volumeMeasured, not declared.
Transportation priceWhat each option costs on this lane today.
COD amountWhat has to be collected, and who can collect it.
Service & SLAWhat was promised at checkout, not what is convenient now.
Carrier performanceFrom the partner-performance model, per lane.
Recipient experienceWhat the person at the door gets – the input most rules leave out.
