First mile

Everything that happens before the parcel is yours.

Import, pickup, collection and return – the block that turns somebody else’s order into a shipment on your line, without an integration project in front of it.

The argument

Most delivery problems are born here.

By the time a parcel is late, the mistake is usually days old and several systems upstream.

An address that arrived malformed from an eshop. A pickup booked for a day the van was never going to be in that area. A weight that was declared rather than measured. None of these look like last-mile problems, and all of them are paid for in the last mile – in a failed delivery, a second attempt and a phone call.

The usual answer is a middleware project: a mapping layer, a nightly job, a spreadsheet somebody maintains. That works until the shipper changes their catalogue.

The block is built so the order arrives in whatever shape it already leaves the shipper’s system – plugin, API, ERP, WMS, the shipper app, or a spreadsheet – and becomes a shipment with a price and a route in the same step.

From that moment the parcel has one identity on one record, and every downstream block reads it rather than re-deriving it. The address fixed at the door weeks from now comes back to this record too.

No integration project before the first parcel moves.

What is inside the block

Five products, one handover.

Import: API, plugins, XLS

Shopify, API, ERP, WMS, the shipper app or a spreadsheet. The shipment, the price and the route come out of the same call.

Pickup scheduling

Regular pickups on a pattern the shipper sets, planned into the same rounds as everything else rather than as a separate fleet.

On-demand pickups

A pickup requested today, slotted into a round that already exists. The predicted-collections model goes further: a collection expected at 11:00 is built into the plan before the call comes.

Collection & return points

Where a parcel enters the line without a van – a counter, a point, a locker. Returns use the same nodes in reverse.

First mile depot

The first place the parcel is scanned, weighed and taken into custody. The moment the record stops being a promise and starts being an object.

Address qualityAddress issue resolution is one of the models on this block. A malformed address is flagged at import rather than at the door, and a correction made at the door feeds back so the next order from that customer is already right.
Pickup volume predictionHow much is actually coming from this shipper today, so capacity is planned against the expected load rather than the booked one.
Declared vs measuredWhat the shipper said it weighs, against what the gate measures later. The gap is visible per shipper, which is where weight-revenue leakage is recovered.
Returns as a first mileA return is a collection with a different label. It uses the same pickups, the same points and the same round – not a parallel process.

Send us one day of your order file.

We will import it, route it and show you what the platform would have done with it – before you change anything.
