The argument

One line, or one integration project a year.

Almost every delivery operation is running four or five systems that each know part of the truth, joined by exports and a person.

The shape is always the same. A TMS for the round. A WMS or a spreadsheet for the hub. A separate tracking product because the TMS one is ugly. A billing system that gets a nightly file. And a person whose actual job is reconciling them before the month closes.

Each system is defensible on its own. Together they produce an operation where nobody can answer “what happened to this parcel” without opening three windows, and where every improvement needs an integration project in front of it.

The alternative is not a bigger suite. It is one record: every block on the line writes to the same shipment, and every block reads the models back from it. The control tower, the invoice and the recipient’s page are three views of one object.

That is what makes the blocks modular rather than monolithic. You can take one and leave the rest – but the one you take is already speaking the same language as the ones you have not taken yet.

A platform you can take one block of is worth more than a suite you have to take all of.
