Hub & middle mile

The building, and the road between buildings.

Scan, weigh, consolidate, seal, load and move – with custody and cost tracked on the same record as the delivery at the other end.

The argument

The hub is where the money quietly leaks.

Two leaks, both invisible from the last mile, both measurable here.

Billable weight. A parcel is priced from what the shipper declared. If it never passes a gate that measures it, the difference is revenue you carried and did not bill. A Lastmily estimate puts up to 20% of billable weight past the sorter, and that up to 80% of that leakage is recoverable once it is measured on the same record it is priced from.

Lastmily estimate. It is the kind of number you should baseline on your own gate before believing anyone, including us.

Line-haul. Lanes and loads are usually planned on a spreadsheet by somebody who knows them well, which works until volume moves. Lane and load optimisation against the actual parcels – not the forecast – is worth an estimated 10-15% of line-haul transportation cost – Lastmily estimate.

Both leaks share a cause: the measurement and the money live in different systems. Here they are the same record.

Custody is not a paper trail. It is a sequence of events you can open down to the scan.

What is inside the block

Six products, one chain of custody.

Hub app

Scan-first Android for PDAs, Bluetooth scanners and phone cameras – designed for one hand, because the other one is holding a parcel.

Containers & consolidation

Bag, minibag, flyer, EFG flyer, cart, pallet. What went into what, when, and by whom.

Seals & custody

Who had the parcel, in which container, under which seal. A dispute becomes a query rather than an investigation.

Transport sessions

A leg of the journey as an object you can plan, load, close and settle – which is what makes lane cost real rather than allocated.

Line-haul & closings

The road between buildings: lanes, loads, and the closing that hands the parcel to the next block with its custody intact.

Sorter, gate & robot integrations

Sorters, dimensioning gates, AI cameras, scales, label printers and robots over the same API as everything else.

Reporting

Weight, custody and lane cost on one record.

Because the gate, the container, the seal and the invoice all write to the same shipment, the report that says “this lane costs this much” is built from the scans, not from an allocation rule.

That is also what makes the weight mismatch an anomaly rather than a quarterly discovery – see the control tower.

The hub app

Five functions, one hand.

Scan-first Android for PDAs, Bluetooth scanners and phone cameras.

  • Inbound
  • Weigh & measure (AI)
  • Export
  • Load & dispatch
  • Inventory
Designed for one hand

Every screen assumes the other hand is holding a parcel. Scan first, decide second – not a form to fill before the scan counts.

Weigh & measure with AI

Volumetrics and weight prediction at the gate, so the billable figure comes from the object rather than the order.

Inventory that matches the floor

What is in the building right now, by container and by node, because every movement was a scan.

Baseline the weight gap first.

It is usually the fastest number to measure and the hardest one to argue with.
